Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / topping lift on the backstay ?
« Last post by Bobby on December 29, 2024, 08:12:24 AM »
Hello everyone !

I have a question regarding my standing rigging, on a 1978 Pearson 323.

This one does not have a topping lift. Instead, a stainless steel cable with carabiner is directly fixed in Y on the backstay and on the boom (Figure).

The previous owner told me that he sailed without a topping lift.

When sailing, this stainless steel cable limits downwind performance.

I have some questions :
- have you ever seen this assembly?
- Should the stainless steel cable be removed once the main sail has been hoisted (then put back in place once the main sail has been lowered), with the boom vang stretched?
- does the installation of a classic topping lift or a rigid vang seem relevant to you?

Thank you for your help!  :)

New Member Introductions / New owner of a 39-2
« Last post by dwalters on December 24, 2024, 07:42:49 PM »
We are the proud owners of a 1989 39-2.  I think the original owner was Corky Rittenbaugh from Phoenixville, PA, who sailed her in the Annapolis area (boat name then was Oasis) then sold to Diana Paterra, from Lamerville, NJ, who sailed her around Long Beach Island, NJ (Boat name Bel Sogno Duo, which we kept).  We berth Bel Sogno Duo at the North East River Yacht Club in North East, MD.  Anyone who knows the boat or past owners, or who just would like to chat or roundevous, please giive me a shout.
Cheers,
Dean Walters

P30 / Rudder replacement
« Last post by CoachC on December 21, 2024, 01:41:58 PM »
So my rudder is water logged. Got a replacement rudder looking for help on how it is to replace rudder. Looks to need some fiberglass repair on area around the hole rudder shaft goes into will supply pictures later wondering how the bushing go onr there are three two larger and one smaller inner ring. Note I have a wheel steering installed and want to add emergency tiller. I see I have to raise the boat to drop old rudder and insert new rudder.

General Discussion / Looking for an open port for a 323 pearson.

I am looking one 4-1/4X 14-1/4 open port for a 323 Pearson 1980. Cannot find this specific part online.

Thank you

I found exactly what I needed at Beckson.com. I had tried that earlier but apparently my lack of searching the internet kept me from finding it.

Interior Structures / Chart Table Drawer Pull Project
« Last post by DavidG on November 25, 2024, 12:27:34 PM »
I don't know if Pearson installed a chart table side drawer or not?  It gives an arm reach access to the hidden booze locker behind the chart side of the table when the drawer is removed.  Even so, I added what I believe to be a tasteful SS drawer pull that gives me ease of access to opening the drawer. I though it worthwhile sharing this little detail project since the flush pull (the smallest dia. size SS  pull I could find) does not establish interference of any sort - externally nor internally; although, the tolerance for the depth of the recess not to break through the back of the 1/2 teak was tight! You must go slow checking often with the forstner bit - It was a balance between flush mounting and not breaking thru the back side!
