JABSCO 36950-1000 fresh water pump
« on: May 21, 2013, 02:19:20 PM »
Season 2013 offered up another surprise.  Believe it or not after 34 years my JABSCO 36950-1000 fresh water pump died.  The motor is pulling major amps and tripping the breaker.
Replaced it with the JABSCO 36950-2000. Bigger footprint but essentially the same unit.
Best price was from Newegg $261 with free shipping.  Works great and quiet.

Thanks Rusty.  I haven't checked it out thoroughly, but I believe mine (35 years old) gave up the ghost this weekend.  Good to have a source.

One other thing concerning this pump.  I can get the original 1000 model and I would rather have the original foot print. In thinking about it, though, was there a reason this one was phased out and replaced with the 2000 model?

The foot print is larger but fits nicely where the original was, which was next to a bulkhead next to the water heater.  I haven't done a spec check vs the older one, but it seem quieter with less vibration.   Now that may be because it's brand new.  One noticeable difference is the metal guard around the belt, I don't think fingers get in there but maybe a rouge boat hook could

I believe my boat still has the original 36950-1000 pump in it. The previous owner installed an RV filter on the cold side line going to the galley sink. The cold side out of that faucet is just a bare trickle. The hot side comes out all right but no where near the 4 gpm rating of the pump. I am thinking the pump is just running out of steam and either needs a rebuild or replaced. Is rebuilding the pump worth it or should I replace it? The guy at the local West Marine said he could order the rebuild kit for a little over $100.
