Cockpit drains

Time to winterize, I heard there's a good way to winterize the cockpit drains so they don't freeze but keep them open. Anyone have some tips? Dave G said something about running hoses through them, but he left my marina before I could get the specifics.

I assume you are on the hard. Why do you shut the seacocks rather than let the cockpit drain?

I keep it in the water. The Marina has Bubblers. So I keep the Cockpit Drains open, Dave said he ran hoses through or something which kept the water from freezing up higher blocking the sink. Winter is over now, but if anyone knows that Hack, feel free to post it!
