I have not experienced the setup you described; in my case I installed a rigid boom vang and removed the topping lift entirely, and never regretted it. No topping lift makes life so much easier on many levels. In addition I love the rigid vang (Garhauer) - easier to use than the original, stronger and more reliable.

Hello everyone !

I have a question regarding my standing rigging, on a 1978 Pearson 323.

This one does not have a topping lift. Instead, a stainless steel cable with carabiner is directly fixed in Y on the backstay and on the boom (Figure).

The previous owner told me that he sailed without a topping lift.

When sailing, this stainless steel cable limits downwind performance.

I have some questions :
- have you ever seen this assembly?
- Should the stainless steel cable be removed once the main sail has been hoisted (then put back in place once the main sail has been lowered), with the boom vang stretched?
- does the installation of a classic topping lift or a rigid vang seem relevant to you?

We are the proud owners of a 1989 39-2.  I think the original owner was Corky Rittenbaugh from Phoenixville, PA, who sailed her in the Annapolis area (boat name then was Oasis) then sold to Diana Paterra, from Lamerville, NJ, who sailed her around Long Beach Island, NJ (Boat name Bel Sogno Duo, which we kept).  We berth Bel Sogno Duo at the North East River Yacht Club in North East, MD.  Anyone who knows the boat or past owners, or who just would like to chat or roundevous, please giive me a shout.

P30 / Rudder replacement

So my rudder is water logged. Got a replacement rudder looking for help on how it is to replace rudder. Looks to need some fiberglass repair on area around the hole rudder shaft goes into will supply pictures later wondering how the bushing go onr there are three two larger and one smaller inner ring. Note I have a wheel steering installed and want to add emergency tiller. I see I have to raise the boat to drop old rudder and insert new rudder.
