Deck Mounted Hardware / Second Anchor Roller
« on: December 09, 2011, 08:56:12 AM »
Has anyone found a good fitting anchor roller that will bolt on the Pearson 323 platform for a second anchor?  If so could you provide a part number and/or photo?

Custom work (like this project by Cliff) is out of my budget so I am looking for an off-the-shelf solution that is strong and still looks good.

Deck Mounted Hardware / Lifeline Stanchions
« on: November 23, 2011, 12:46:14 PM »
I am looking for a 24" SS Lifeline Stanchion if anyone has any used ones they might part with. I have found several sources for stanchions but they seem quite expensive for a 24" piece of stainless!

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Icebox insulation
« on: August 15, 2011, 09:44:20 PM »
We found significant gaps in the framework of our icebox at the top all around the perimeter. I was able reach into the ice box and put a couple of fingers through the hole in the left rear of it - and be able to see them from the engine compartment. Needless to say we hope that this was an oversight during construction of our boat - and that there is actually some insulation in it.

As a fix we took foam pipe insulation, both 1/2" and 3/4", and pressed it into the gap around the perimeter of the box at the top. It seems to work quite well.

Has anyone done any work to determine the scope of the insulation installed, and/or have rework experience with the p323 ice box?

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Marine Air Conditioning
« on: July 13, 2011, 01:48:13 PM »
We have been living aboard doing projects and of course it is hot in the south!  We started looking at Marine A/C units and were wondering if anyone has A/C installed on their P323.  If so where is your unit located and how many BTU is recommended?

We have tested a 5K BTU window air conditioner and it did fine in cooling the main cabin, perhaps a marine unit of this size would be adequate.  We are considering a Webasto model that Defender has on sale, which also provides heating.  We are looking at a space in the head where the vanity sink used to be.

Interior Structures / Need swing out sink dimensions
« on: May 18, 2011, 07:08:22 PM »
We need to mold a new sink unit in the head. The boat appears to have had a swing out sink at one time but we don't know the history of what happened to it. We have been researching various designs and are leaning towards going with the Pearson swing-out style in the attached photo. We would like to get some detailed dimensions of the unit.  Or as a long shot maybe somebody has one they would part with...

Ports & Hatches / Deck Hatches
« on: May 12, 2011, 11:17:20 AM »
Our 1981 #288 has broken arms on each of the hatches. We would like to refurbish the old ones if we can get parts. I have not found any identifiers on these hatches -- Does anyone know what make/model of hatches were used on their 323?

Sails and Canvas / Full Batten Main
« on: April 12, 2011, 06:38:37 PM »
I recently acquired my P323 and need a new main.  I was considering the pro's and con's of a full batten main from Doyle http://www.doylesails.com/cruising/durasail/fullbatten/index.html.  Any owners out there have any comments on upgrading their P323 to full battens?

Here is a response from one long time P323 owner that I think makes a pretty good case for it:
"Glad you mentioned the full batten main.  One of the critiques of the Pearson 323, 365 and 424 family is that they didn’t point well.  And they didn’t.  Partly because they were relatively shallow draft boats (compared to deep fin racers) and partly because of the mainsail of 1979.  The full batten main on that boat moves it up 10 notches on the pointing scale.  That seems to be just what it needed, and now it points so well that I need to get a new jib that is hard cut with a small belly so that it will drive with the main.  I love it.  I now have a new full batten on the 424. I always thought Hobie Alter figured that out when he put full batten mains on the Hobie's long ago.  That was the only way to get them to go up wind."
