Interior Structures / Re: Replacing Pegboard in Cockpit Lockers
« on: April 18, 2023, 09:05:58 AM »
I know yours was an older post, but am intrigued by your locker arrangement as I don’t like bending so far over to reach anything in them as it all goes to the bottom.  I was also intrigued at the comment about quietness as that benefit of better panels never occurred to me.  I have only loose fitting vertical boards in my lockers, and they have significant gaps and no fasteners so don’t get much or any sound deadening from them.

But having just spent several hours crouching in each of the two lockers for several Yanmar engine repairs makes me wonder about the difficulty of engine access after installing these panels.   I presume they could be readily removed for routine maintenance, but was just curious about your experience in that regard.

Thanks!
Mike

Thanks for the info, at least I know that it unscrews so should be able to remove it.

Sorry but I don't see any depressions in the cover, it is a smooth plate with the two bolt heads exposed on top.

It sounds like the plate itself unscrews, if that is right I can come up with some way to do that using the bolt heads.  Did I understand that correctly?

Deck Mounted Hardware / emergency tiller access port
« on: August 08, 2021, 12:01:35 PM »
I am a newbie, having just bought Pearson 323 #94.

So trying to remove the emergency tiller hatch (see picture) and the bolts just spin.  Any tips on that or does the entire cover unscrew?  Tried that too but maybe not hard enough.  Suggestions/advice most welcome,

Mike

Ports & Hatches / plexiglass source for Bomar hatch
« on: August 08, 2021, 11:49:58 AM »
Hi new member here having just bought Pearson 323 #94, originally bought new by my father in law in 1977!

Just rebedded the two deck hatches with Butyl tape, all good.  one of the hatches has a small leak around the plexi at the screws with some cracking as well.

I tried calling Bomar successor Pompanette and they don't sell hatch plexi of that type anymore.

So my questions are:
1.  Do I measure and have a replacement made from a shop, or their a ready made one available?
2.  What material should I use. plexiglass, lexan, etc and how thick?
3.  What do I use to seat in and seal the replacement material?

Any help greatly appreciated!

hello, I just bought Pearson 323 hull number 94, and the story is interesting.  My father in law bought the boat new in 1977 and was the sole owner until his health declined in his later years.   He sold it to two Fairhope (AL) yacht club members before his death a few years back.  So my wife and i just bought half of it back, and it floats in the same slip at Fairhope Yacht Club where it has been for so many years.

Lots of work to do but having fun already!

Mike
