Great Posts everyone. You might like to see the web site for the  ATN Tacker and Sleeve. This is what I use and it works great. Here is the web site you can copy and paste, they have a short video showing how it works. Fair winds to all.

When I got my Pearson in 2011 it had a bad MD 11. I found a used MD 11 from a Bera Marine dealer on the East Coast for 2,900 plus 300 for shipping. By the time I paid for removal of the old and in with the new To me MD11 I think I had over 8,000 in costs. She still runs good but If I had to do it over, I think I would put in a new Beta Marine. Rebuilding with new parts and labor would not make sense in my opinion. One thing To consider is a Pearson 323 with a new motor and a few upgrades is one sweet boat. I was on a mission for a while to buy a newer 36 ft boat, but came to realize that While newer and maybe more modern systems in a newer boat, the 323 is a jewel to sail if you add a few new systems and keep up with normal maintenance. As Ed so wisely put it, a boat is Not about the money all the time. The stories and experiences good and bad are priceless. Good luck

Been there done that. When I got back to my slip once after sailing in 25+ winds, It took me a minute or so to figure what the heck happened to my Port Cowl. Makes you feel kind of stupid but glad I am in good company. Fair winds to all and Happy New Year

Electrical Systems & Electronics / Re: MD11C Alternator
« on: August 19, 2015, 09:58:46 AM »
Sounds like you have it figured out. I am headed to my boat on the 28th for a week. If you cant find a fix,I still have my original alternator in a locker somewhere, you are welcome to it if you pay the shipping. It was working when I replaced it for the 100 amp one I currently have. Send me your contact info to rbrtfeld@aol.com.

Is this an original Volvo Alternator? That does not sound good. I replaced my original with a 100 amp high output Alternator. Anything at 100 or more should have an external regulator. Are you sure it was the Alternator that fried your electronics? I think it would be worth your time and money since you just purchased the boat to hire a professional marine electrician to look over your entire system. I learned more in a couple of hours from my electrician than I could have in a year reading about what to do about a problem. Good luck

Sails and Canvas / Pearson 323 Custom Burgee
« on: May 27, 2015, 03:34:38 PM »
Anyone interested in a custom Burgee from North Sails that has the Pearson 323 logo done in Embroidery? I have attached sample artwork. I will take delivery and mail them to that wants one. I need to know how many are interested and then they will give me a final price. They are about $25.00 for one sided and $37.50 for two sided. Size I was thinking about is 12x18. It seems to be a good size but am open to suggestions. I can reached at rbrtfeld@aol.com if you have any questions

MoonDance,

Great information from Selene, Libations Two and Sea Haven, as an owner of a MD 11 I can attest to the high price and difficulty of getting parts for the MD 11. On another note they are really hard to work on in the limited space available. Checking the oil is even hard if you haven't done it before. You are good right where you are at with the A4 set up. Even if you have to spend the $8,000 for a rebuilt A4, that is a bargain and much less than you would spend putting in a Diesel like the Beta.  In my opinion the big difference is the safety issues with Gas or Diesel. It is not even a argument that Gas is more dangerous on a boat than Diesel, but if you are careful and take all the safety measures to refuel and start you engine, I think it is no problem.  Good luck and fair winds, you are going to love the Pearson 323 when you get her going.

My wife wanted to commit me for buying the boat. My top sides were in good shape but the hull gel coat was not very good. I was lucky to find a guy who was willing to sand and revarnish the rails for 500.00. The hull we cleaned as well as we could and used Poli-glow. It has to be redone every couple of years but was pretty economical. This past year year I put a two part varnish that seems to be holding up really well. I did however buy sunbrella covers for all the toe rails. Not cheap, but worth every penny I paid. Make sure if you are going to use poli-glow on the Hull, you understand that if you have the hull repainted in the future, you have to use a poli-strip or the paint will not adhere very well. Make sure to read about the pro and cons before you use Poli-glow. Everyone has an opinion, but my opinion is that it looks good and was really pretty easy after the initial cleaning. Good luck and fair winds
