Electrical Systems & Electronics / Re: Mast light wiring diagram

I had the same issue and we used foam copper pipe insulation from Home Depot. They already have one side that has been cut so you just slide them on the wire and up the mast. Wasn’t perfect but got the job done. Good luck

Great answer. Ha ha. I have learned so much from this site. Thanks to all that have contributed.

Good idea but be ready to spend a bunch on heavy gauge wire running back to the motor and other connections. I put in a Windlass and was shocked at the wire cost to run from my house bank to the windlass motor in the bow. The weight is no problem if you think of what water weighed when tank is full. Good luck and Fair winds

Was not a 323 but I agree that it was close. I saw that picture in Yachtword and saved it. Good luck on your project

Ports & Hatches / Newfound Metal Port-lights for Rockstar
« on: February 12, 2018, 08:15:12 PM »
I finally got around to replacing my old Port-lights this past week. I replaced the old ones with Stainless Steel opening ports by Newfound Metals. They are beautiful but a little work to install. Richard at Newfound Metals was great in answering all my many questions. The service at NFM is outstanding to say the least. I used a combination of the Newfound Metal You-Tube installation video and parts of the very well written example on Compass Marine. Here are the links:

The plastic idea from Captain Ron is interesting but I am wondering if one could be made out of Carbon Fiber??????

 Ed, please pass this along.
I have the exact copy that Carter made for Dolce Vita. I have not installed it yet and have it in a locker in Los Angeles. I am headed there for 10 days next week. If you can call Carter and make arrangements to make you one, I would be willing to ship mine to them so they could copy it for you. Not sure what shipping would be but should not be bad. If this works for you you can reach me at rbrtfeld@aol.com

I got a 100 amp from RO water in the San Diego area. They were great to work with and knew exactly what I needed for the MD11. Here is the link

I would recommend that you research as much as you can before you make decisions on your final choices. Good luck and fair winds

Cruising / Current Cruising Outpost Pictures
« on: October 03, 2017, 04:26:20 PM »
I was flipping through the current "Cruising Outpost" edition the other night and to my surprise there was a picture of my 323 the Rockstar in the middle section of cruising pictures. There was also a picture of Bill's wife on the Wanderer 323 on their cruise to the Caribbean a couple of years ago. Brought a smile to my face as my wife was at the helm of our 323. Sadly she lost her battle with lung Cancer this last June. Those picture will provide great memories. Fair winds to all.

Engine and Drive Train / Re: MD11c Parts
« on: October 03, 2017, 04:06:37 PM »
That is a good question,  I had a situation a couple of years ago that one day when I started my MD 11 no water passed. I could not figure out what happened. I started fearing the worst when It came to me to remove the Thermostat and start the motor just to see if that changed anything. To my relief Water passed very freely, so i just put in a new Thermostat
that day and my motor works perfect to this day. The old Thermostat had a little corrosion on it, so now I just change it about once a year.  Worst case it makes me feel better, Ha ha.  I have been thinking about a re-power some day but for now she runs OK. Just circled Catalina Island last month and motored about 10 hours of the trip. First time in a long time the Motor was used for an extended period. Not saying anyone should replace the Thermostat like I do but it works for me. Fair winds.
