Steering System, Hull Structure / Hydrovane self steering system
« on: January 07, 2024, 08:13:06 AM »
Hi, I recently came across a good deal on a nearly new Hydrovane Self steering system and would like to know if any 323 owners have one installed on their boat. If so have you mounted it in line with the keel or is it offset like I see many boat owners have done. According to the folks at Hydrovane mounting the unit off Center will not effect the function or effectiveness of the unit. Thanks, Scott

I know a few have moved the main sheet traveler on a 323 to the coachroof and I am wondering if a German sheeting arrangement might work. What would a person have to do to ensure that the coachroof was strong enough to handle the stress of such a set up. Scott

I have an older 130 that is still in good shape. I was wondering if it might be feasible to have it cut down to a 100 or 95 ? Seems we have the 130 reefed to about a 100 most of the time

General Discussion / Salon table post removal

I was wondering if anyone has removed the post that the salon table rides up and down on so as to make a larger double birth, or does it have some structural importance.

Great, just what I needed. I love the idea of a vent going to either side. Thanks, Scott

Is there anybody that can tell me where the vent to their holding tank exits their boat ? Mine did not have a holding tank so I would like to know where best to have the vent exit to the exterior before I go to cutting a hole in the cabin top or topsides. This newbie just wants to be sure before making that leap !

I have converted the starboard water tank to a holding tank and was wondering if anyone could tell where the existing vent goes to, and also some ideas with regard to venting the now holding tank to the exterior of the boat. Thanks, Scott

Thanks for posting the pics. They certainly give me an idea of what I can do to get some shelter in the cockpit.

That’s great. Thanks for the pics. I was wondering how a person would deal with the length of the boom and the main sheet. It would be nice to be able to sit out in the cockpit even when it’s raining as you say. Great job. Now to put this on my list of projects LOL

I redid my hatches pretty much the same as Dolce Vita including having them sand blasted before the powder coating. Although the fellow at the powder coating shop was aware of the possibility of the beading it still occurred but not too badly. I just lightly sanded the worst areas and then spray painted them. The hatches look identical to the photo posted. They came out looking like new.

Just an end of season update. We got the engine back in after the rebuild and it now runs like a new engine, other than the fact it started to overheat towards the end of the summer! In the process of winterized get now and find that the raw water pump does not seem to be pumping, or at least it will not suck the antifreeze out of the jug into which I put intake hose into. Wondering if maybe it has a priming problem because it was pumping water just before haul out. Always something I guess. Scott
