has anyone upgraded to a high output alternator for the Volvo penta MD11c? Any tips and what they used would be helpful. I am considering a balmar High Output and need any help that is available.
-
rbrtfeld - I know this post is many years old but I now find myself in the same position with an MD11C. I'm re-doing much of the electrical and in disconnecting the alternator I found all the connection posts completely corroded from years of neglect from the PO. Do you mind sharing what route you went and any difficulties you ran into?
Much appreciated,
Brent

I got a 100 amp from RO water in the San Diego area. They were great to work with and knew exactly what I needed for the MD11. Here is the link

I would recommend that you research as much as you can before you make decisions on your final choices. Good luck and fair winds

I have an MD11c in my garage which came out of my boat earlier this year. Fresh water parts to include the alternator.

Bill do you still have that MD11C laying around? Im looking for a discontinued part that retains the cable which attached to choke
-
Still have it. Got a picture of what you need?
-
Thanks! Let me find a blown-up schematic of the engine and I will highlight the part.
-
Bill I need part number 39 (cable lock) for the engine choke in the attached .pdf hopefully you have these parts as my volvo supplier is telling me its out of production.
-
That is the throttle. Mine was a cable off other end that went to Edson pedestal. Yours looks like a back up cable going the other direction. My choke is the red button you push down to start. Piece you look to replace is similar to a cable extender I bought for my 73 VW Beetle. Empi part but guess any good part store will have it.

Bill,
Do you have the Tach sender unit that is mounted on the starboard side of the MD11C?
It's near the oil dipstick.
I could use one, the sender is out of production
Thanks

I have a P 323 also, based at Boyne City Mi. Still has original md11c. What did you repower with and how did you deal with the v drive?
