Steering System, Hull Structure / Hydrovane self steering system
« on: January 07, 2024, 08:13:06 AM »
Hi, I recently came across a good deal on a nearly new Hydrovane Self steering system and would like to know if any 323 owners have one installed on their boat. If so have you mounted it in line with the keel or is it offset like I see many boat owners have done. According to the folks at Hydrovane mounting the unit off Center will not effect the function or effectiveness of the unit. Thanks, Scott

I know a few have moved the main sheet traveler on a 323 to the coachroof and I am wondering if a German sheeting arrangement might work. What would a person have to do to ensure that the coachroof was strong enough to handle the stress of such a set up. Scott

General Discussion / Salon table post removal

I was wondering if anyone has removed the post that the salon table rides up and down on so as to make a larger double birth, or does it have some structural importance.

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Holding tank vent
« on: June 05, 2020, 04:29:01 PM »
I have converted the starboard water tank to a holding tank and was wondering if anyone could tell where the existing vent goes to, and also some ideas with regard to venting the now holding tank to the exterior of the boat. Thanks, Scott

Engine and Drive Train / Removing Atomic 4
« on: September 05, 2017, 07:47:37 PM »
Just wondering if someone out there that has removed the A4 out of their boat that can give me some tips and pointers. First question is does the transmission have to come out with it, or is there room to get it out without taking the trans too. My thought is that it would eliminate the realigning of the shaft down the road.

Boat Handling / Broad reach sailing in high wind and following seas
« on: July 05, 2016, 07:31:21 PM »
Hi, I am finally getting to sail  my 323 that I purchased last year. I am noticing that the boat rolls heavily from side to side when I am on a broad reach, mores than other boats I have owned. I am wondering how she actually likes the sails set in let's say 15 to 20 knots with a 3 to 6 foot following sea. She seems to get pushed around at the stern and roll heavily from side to side. I had one reef in the main and the jib reefed to about 110 when this was happening. Any pointers and or explanations of how I can get her sailing on this point of sail better then what I have been doing? Thanks Scott

Deck Mounted Hardware / New Owner Hull 135 - Windlass Location
« on: November 15, 2014, 05:26:25 PM »
Well, It's been finalized. I am now the new owner of hull 135 named Blue Spray, to be renamed " Emmi Maria"! I have been reading up lots about these wonderful boats here on the owners site, and see that it offers a wealth of info from very experienced owners. I hope that someday, I too will be able to contribute something worthy, meanwhile I hope that you will put up with my questions! In addition to the holding tank, I will be installing a windlass and am puzzled as to what would be the best spot to locate it. Any suggestions on type and location would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Scott

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Holding Tank
« on: November 14, 2014, 07:15:41 AM »
Hi all,
I am in the process of purchasing a 323 and the first thing I will have to do to the boat is install a holding tank. I see in the line drawings that one is shown in the area of the V Birth, starboard side. Can anyone tell me where I can find information on rero fitting a holding tank in this area? Thanks, Scott
