P40 / Pearson 40

I was looking and thinking about a Pearson 40 with a flush deck.  What are your thoughts about this vessel.  At the price I have seen I might just be dreaming.  It look's fast just sitting at the dock.

Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Re: Boom Vang

The bottom of the Vang should be as low as possible on the mast and the Vang should be 30 to not more than 45 degrees of an angle.  I am not an expert, but that is what I understand where it should be.  Make a mark at the attachment point on the mast and use a degree wheel to to figure the angle and mark the boom.  Measure between the two marks and that should be the length.  NOTE (the angle should be made from the boom)

Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Boom Vang

Just got a killer deal on a Boom Vang.  Want to know what type of attachment points should I get?  Like the boom should I just get a one bolt boom bail and what size?  Also the mast, should I get something that will move to both sides or a mast hound.  It is a soft Vang.  Don't want to spend a lot but would like something descent, is that possible?   I will be installing this myself.  Thank You for the input.   Dick

After fixing- prop, prop shaft, strut, skeg, motor mounts while the insurance company was paying to have it out what a good time to repaint the bottom and polish her up.  Was also able to go out and see the eclipse.  Feels good to be able to go sailing again.  Sure was a long month...

This is what I sent Good Old Boat about what I thought...If your sail's are balanced the boat about sail's itself.  No need to turn on auto, just tighten wheel brake.  Does well in 2 to 4 foot sea's and 15 to 20 knot winds put in your first reef no problem getting to hull speed.  This boat is very sea kindly.  It is made with a heavy fiberglass hull and is solid as a rock.  The favorite thing about this boat is the dining table lifting up and out of the way and the least favorite is no room around the motor to work on it or service.  I have had this boat since 2013, no major problems but I do keep up with regular maintenance.  The only advice I have for a new owner is don't have a job where you have to work alot of hours because you will want to be out sailing her...  Dick Martin     Myrtle Beach, S.C.

General Discussion / The Log

While tied to the city docks in Wilmington, NC last Saturday night 4 or 5 large logs hit our boat while sleeping.  Sometime during the night one went under the dock and in between our skeg and prop.  An hour later we got it out.  have to take her out of the water soon to check the damage.  prop, motor mounts, rudder, fiberglass, bottom ect.  Check out the pictures the log was 34' long .  She is a tough old girl and got me home 54 miles away...

GHP 12 #010-00705-15, class B compact drive # 010-12029-00, remote #010-11146-20,  I love the unit, plug and play. had to build a base for the drive and the drive is probably over kill.  I believe the class A would work just fine #010-11572-00.
