Electrical Systems & Electronics / Compass Lights
« on: May 02, 2014, 10:52:16 AM »
Have a Sestrel Compass and the lights are bad.  I know the part # for clear and red assembly (clear 6907 and red 6907/01), but I cannot find a place that sells them.  But what I really would like to have is red LED'S.  Does anyone know where I can find some led's?   Or where I can purchase the OEM lights.     I know that the wire on the right bulb is not in the center I just put in in the clip to show how it is wired in the visor...

Electrical Systems & Electronics / Auto Pilot
« on: March 31, 2014, 08:28:44 PM »
I have an old Navico Auto Pilot YP500 that does not work.  The led's flashes 7 times which in trouble codes said it's the Compass or the Course computer.  My question is there an fluxgate compass made by someone else that would work?  Mine has 3 wires.  Or does anyone know about this Autopilot or should I just start saving for a whole new unit.  It is a below deck unit.   ****  Since I posted this I have purchased A new Course Computer, so all I am looking for is the fluxgate compass...

Exterior Finish and Fiberglass / Blisters 2 part question
« on: February 25, 2014, 03:52:32 PM »
1st could you use West System Six 10 Epoxy in the tube for your blisters?  I have about 10 to 15 smaller than a dime.  2nd what West System filler would you use 404,406,403,405, or 407.  I already have used it on the bottom of the skeg with some 407 filler.  Please don't tell me that I have to take it off and start over.  Everything I have read said it was a strong epoxy.  The only problem was the first and final coats before and after the filler were a little thick.

General Discussion / Haul out
« on: December 01, 2013, 09:05:04 PM »
Going to take the boat out in the next few days and I dont know what I need to drain so it dosent freeze. Engine, water tanks,AC,toilet and holding tank.  How do I know when these are empty?   Or if I can hook up to 110 and put in some heat rods.  What would be the best thing to do?

Cruising / Coming Home...
« on: October 17, 2013, 11:33:49 AM »
Coming home Monday 10/14/2013 to Little River, S.C..   We were in Murrells Inlet, S.C. which is only 30 miles South East.  We had North East winds @ 20 to 25 knots with gust up to 30.  The seas were 6 to 8 with a few 10’s.  Not the best of conditions but we need to get home.  My father (90) and my son (22) leave at 11:00 am Monday and we get to our dock at 1:00 am Tuesday.  What I am boasting about is that Frayed Knot is a solid boat, my dad and son are fearless and I was glad to get to the dock.  We had to sail 64 miles to get 30 and were hitting up to 8.1 knots with the second reef in,  WHAT A GREAT SAIL.    I have a few video’s I will try to add them.

Cruising / Exhaust goes under
« on: August 21, 2013, 12:13:00 PM »
Was coming in the jetty's last Sunday and I noticed that the exhaust pipe was going under water sometimes.   I was under power and could hear the change of sound when the exhaust went under.  I don't sail under power a lot but never noticed this before.  Is this normal for the transom to drop that much or could it have been the following seas or both?  I did have the dingy on the davits but is only weighs 80 or 90 lbs. if that much.  Am I worrying about nothing?   I did check the bilge and it had no water.

Sails and Canvas / curtain slides
« on: August 13, 2013, 06:21:37 PM »
Getting ready to put in some curtains and don't have any idea of where to get the slides that go in the track.  They look to be pretty small compared to an household kind.  Does any one know where to get these?  I have a person that will make them if I get the fabric for an afternoon of sailing...  How could anyone go wrong.

Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Backstay "BANG"
« on: July 15, 2013, 12:45:16 PM »
Need help finding a part.  Yesterday wife, son and two other guest.  We were about 15 miles out and it was 6 to 8 foot seas and 15 to 20 knot winds.  We had our first reef in and Frayed Knot was in its grove.  Tack to head back in and BANG.  The backstay brakes or should I say the screw that goes into the turnbuckle.  I will try to post pictures if you could tell me the name of this part and where I can find them.                      Thanks,   Dick Martin

Cruising / Made-it Voyage (Maiden)
« on: June 19, 2013, 06:49:38 PM »
I can't say enough good stuff about Frayed Knot.  We left out Saturday from the fix it marina (Hague -  Socastee, SC) to our slip near the mouth of the ocean (18 NM).  So we stayed over night at our slip( Cricket Cove Little River , SC)  and got a early start Sunday morning.  It takes 30  minutes to get to the ocean from our slip.  When we hit the MO A went to port for a beam reach. 10 to 15 kt. winds seas 2 to 3 ft.  we are sailing at 7.6 to 7.9 Knots ( Is this possible).  I am high on life...I think the full batten main has something to do with it.  Went up the coast 10 to 15 miles and turned around and made it back to point "A", Which Is a good day.  I am loving this boat, and my wife for letting me have it.  I think she likes it more than Harley's...(and I Own an Harley Shop) She just told me she does.

Electrical Systems & Electronics / Chartplotter Slection
« on: June 08, 2013, 02:08:56 PM »
Looking for a chartplotter that I can hook up everything to at a later time (radar, wind gauges, ais, nema 2000, auto pilot, ect.).  I like Garmin and would like a touch screen 8" or 10".  Will be mounted at wheel.  Would also like to hook up a lap top for the cabin.  Some wire less would be nice.  Can spend $1,500.00 to $2,000.00.  Or am I out in left field?  Some input would be nice... Thanks,  Dick Martin

Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Main Sheets
« on: May 07, 2013, 10:15:11 PM »
Three answer question.  Is the fiddle block with cam with a working load of 1,212 lbs and 3,637 breaking load, OK for the main sheets?  Is a 1/2" line for this application OK for feel and size?  Also how much line do I need to have?  I have changed all of the running rigging but this was missing on the boat..  Thanks

New Member Introductions / New to me
« on: April 29, 2013, 12:55:39 PM »
Hello, My name is Dick Martin.  I just purchased a Pearson 323 Hull # 89 last week.  It was just put in the water last week and I will have to fix things on it without taking it out till next year, but I will use it this summer.  A lot more boat than I had, but I am depending on this site for some helping words.  I have fixed a few things already like spreader lights, bilge pump, halyards, etc.  Working on the autopilot today. If I put this in the wrong section let me know this site is new to me also.   Thanks, Dick
