General Discussion / The Log
« on: June 02, 2017, 03:00:04 PM »
While tied to the city docks in Wilmington, NC last Saturday night 4 or 5 large logs hit our boat while sleeping.  Sometime during the night one went under the dock and in between our skeg and prop.  An hour later we got it out.  have to take her out of the water soon to check the damage.  prop, motor mounts, rudder, fiberglass, bottom ect.  Check out the pictures the log was 34' long .  She is a tough old girl and got me home 54 miles away...

Engine and Drive Train / Oil filter
« on: May 22, 2016, 10:37:36 PM »
Changing the oil and filiter today, there has to be a better way.  I am thinking on getting a relocation kit to do this.  Would like to know your thoughts on this, pro's and con's.  I can't think of anything but making it simple to change the filter.

Engine and Drive Train / temp sensor / thermostat
« on: March 30, 2016, 04:29:09 PM »
I have an MD11C and the boat is a 1977.  If anyone knows the oem part numbers for the temp sensor and the thermostat it would be greatly appreciated.  It never gets hot on the gauge.   Shorted the gauge to ground and it pegged it.  Water is always coming out of exhaust.  Tired of ordering wrong parts.  Do I need to have the serial number and if I do where is the number plate.
Thanks,  Dick

Cruising / Pirate Race
« on: October 23, 2015, 03:56:46 PM »
Going to my first race this Halloween.  Its the Stede Bonnet Regatta in Southport, N.C..  No entrance fee and everyone has to dress as a pirate.  I know there is a few thing I should know, like make sure your anchor is up and keep the wind in you sails.  But if you have a few helpful hints let me know.  Oh yes, we are still sailing here in the NE part of South Carolina.

Plumbing and Galley Systems / AC Flush
« on: July 14, 2015, 08:29:55 PM »
The sea water is not coming out of the AC unit like I think it should and I think it has a restriction in the coils.  Coming out of the pump is strong.  So the question is has any one used Barnacle Buster and should I bypass the impeller on the pump.  Does It work?

Cruising / Sunday's sail short but sweet
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:44:48 PM »
Nice sail Sunday with a few friends.  Coming in at dusk was beautiful also the water seamed to be clean we were only about 9 miles out.  The fellow in the water is still working on his boat and he needed a sail fix.  The wing on wing coming in was nice too...

Cruising / Frayed Knot & Hurricane Arthur splash down
« on: July 08, 2014, 02:24:56 PM »
We put her in the water June 27th, after a long haul out or it seamed to be.  Getting her ready for a 4th of  July weekend.  Here comes Arthur, if I leave by 12 on the 3rd I can get to Cricket Cove Marina in Little River,SC before the bad stuff gets here.  I cast off at 2 and now we don't get to the swing bridge in Little River till 6 and the winds are to high and they will not open the bridge only 1/2 mile from our marina.  I turn around and stay at a dock about a mile down the ICW (Doc Holiday's) they were so very nice they let us stay there for free because of the weather.   I thought the storm was going to be bad but it was not.  Wake up around 6AM and head to the our marina.  Leave at 9am to go to Bald Head Island, NC.  To make a long story short the pictures speak for the rest.  Wonderful sail there and back.   Had 2/3 foot sea's 10/15 knot winds what a wonderful weekend and not one thing went wrong...   (knock on wood)

Exterior Finish and Fiberglass / Boot stripe / Cove stripe
« on: June 11, 2014, 01:26:17 PM »
I had gold tape for a boot and cove stripe.  I want to pant the new one but cant find the color I like.  The best thing I have found is  (1 Shot Metallic Gold).  Is there any reasons why I should not use this?  I am so ready to put her back in the water...Thanks for any input.
