Engine and Drive Train / Impeller Puller for MD11C
« on: July 09, 2015, 09:29:28 PM »
Hi Folks,

I wanted to inquire if any of you have used an impeller puller while working on the water pump of a Volvo Penta MD11C.

I am gearing up to replace the impeller. Have not decided if prying with two screwdrivers is the way I want to go.

It looks like there are two sizes generally available. I am not sure if the smaller size (Sea Dog 660040-1) is still too big to grip the body of the impeller.

Thanks for any info and experience the forum would like to share.

Regards,

Bill

Engine and Drive Train / Mystery Fitting
« on: August 27, 2014, 11:20:05 PM »
Hi Folks,

I had an opportunity to spend some quality time in the bilge this past weekend. Attached is a photograph of a fitting on My Cyn that has me stumped. I am referring to the component held don by the metal strap, fastened with the two Phillips head screws. . It is part of the piping system that runs between the sea valve and the water pump on the VP MD11C.  I am trying to figure out its purpose. It may be a y-type strainer. Interested if anyone has any more or better information.

Cheers!

Engine and Drive Train / Raw Water Strainer
« on: August 13, 2014, 11:30:35 PM »
Hi Folks,

I am interested in upgrading the raw water strainer for the cooling system on the MD11C for My Cyn. I am planning to haul out in September and am trying to get some plans in place.

As we all know, space is at a premium. If any P323 owners have installed or upgraded to a larger strainer, I would love to hear a description or see photos of the installation and most importantly hear any lessons learned. Thanks in advance to Richard R for his excellent photos and detailed input!

Regards,

Electrical Systems & Electronics / Tiny Tach
« on: December 08, 2013, 07:25:17 PM »
Hi Folks,

I am interested if anyone has installed a Tiny Tach on their boats.  I am considering doing this on My Cyn, as the dial tachometer gave up the ghost.

I am looking for as much info as possible prior to spending the money on a new instrument. Details on installing on a 2-cylinder MD11C would be great.

Happy holidays!

Electrical Systems & Electronics / Complete Electrical Schematic
« on: December 15, 2012, 08:27:26 AM »
Hi Folks,

I wanted to inquire whether anyone has created a complete DC wiring schematic for their boat. The diagram in the P323 owners manual leaves a lot of detail out.

I know that the wiring on each of our boats is different based on various levels of customization, but in an effort to create a schematic for My Cyn, I was hoping to build upon a diagram that someone has already started.

Happy holidays!

Engine and Drive Train / Packing Size for Stuffing Box
« on: November 06, 2012, 05:41:14 AM »
Hi Guys,

Wanted to inquire the size of the packing used for the stuffing box on your boats.

I recently used 1/4" Gore GFO. It was tight going in. In hind sight, I probably should have used 3/16".

Interested in hearing experiences, good and bad, from the forum.

Cheers,

Bill

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Seacock Maintenance
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:39:56 PM »
Hi folks,

I just put My Cyn back in the water after her annual haul-out. My main mission was to take care of a lot of below-the-waterline items on my list.

My plan was to disassemble all of the tapered cone seacocks on the boat to clean, lap, and lubricate. It turns out that I was only able to do this on the seacock for the head discharge. The two tapered cone seacocks adjacent to the engine (cockpit scupper drains) were oriented in such a way that prevents the cones from being removed. See the attached photo.

I would appreciate any input the forum would like to share. I find it strange that a sailboat manufacturer would install the valves in a way that prevents disassembly.

Cheers,

Bill

Engine and Drive Train / Tachometer Quit (MD11C)
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:51:18 PM »
Hi Folks,

The tachometer on My Cyn stopped working during my last trip on the water. The needle is dead. Other than that, the MD11C runs as usual.

Has anyone out there experienced a similar failure?

Cheers!

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Diesel Fuel Tank Cleaning
« on: July 11, 2012, 05:30:06 AM »
Hi Guys,

Any experiences to share, good or bad, with cleaning diesel fuel tanks aboard your boats?

This is on my boat list of things to do, and I am trying to learn as much as I can prior to jumping in.

Currently wondering if there is a means of removing any unwanted buildup on the inside tank walls and inside tank top. Not sure if just "polishing" the fuel currently in the tank would accomplish this.

Cheers!

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Manufacturer of Seacocks for P323
« on: June 30, 2012, 09:24:15 AM »
Hi Folks,

I am trying to identify the manufacturer of the seacocks in my 1979 P323. To this point, I cannot see any identifying marks on the valves. Visually, the appear to be Wilcox-Crittenden.

Thanks for any info you could provide.

Hi Folks,

Interested to hear if anyone has a source for replacement eye straps.

The eye straps mounted on the port side of the boom (near the stern end) where the fixed end of the reefing lines attach are corroded. The corrosion is in the middle of the strap where the line is tied off. A fair amound of material is now gone.

I have searched different marine stores, and on-line with no luck.

Would appreciate it if a P3232 owner knows of a source for replacements.

Thanks,

Engine and Drive Train / Cold Start Button on Volvo MD11-C
« on: April 03, 2012, 07:49:46 PM »
Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if the cold start button on the Volvo MD11-C is supposed to stay down on its own until the engine turns over? The owner's manual is a bit vague.

Electrical Systems & Electronics / Spreader Lights
« on: December 08, 2011, 11:06:53 AM »
Hi Guys,

I am considering replacing the existing spreader lights on My Cyn with LED's.

I would be interested if anyone could share their experience in doing this project on their own boat.

Thanks,

Bill

Electrical Systems & Electronics / Digi-Depth 99 Depth Sounder
« on: November 26, 2011, 05:46:39 PM »
Hi Guys,

My Cyn has a Digi-Depth 99 depth sounder manufactured by Compass Electronics Corporation in Forest Grove, Oregon. They are now out of business.

I would like to get a copy of the owner's manual for this device.  If anyone has a copy, please let me know.

I am not sure if this device was standard equipment on pearson 323's.

Engine and Drive Train / Seawater Intake Valve
« on: September 01, 2011, 09:13:19 PM »
The seawater intake valve (in bilge, port side of keel, between the two cabin sole hatches) on My Cyn is a gate valve. Appears to be original equipment. I would like to replace the valve with a Groco flanged seacock. I have taken some measurements and I will need to relocate the thru hull to provide enough clearance for the replacement seacock.

Has anyone done this modification? If so, I would appreciate any lessons learned that can be provided.

Thanks

Bill
