In Massachusetts if there is no hull id# present one will be assigned by the state, which sounds like happened in your case.

I know for a fact that some manufactures will "hide" the hull id# some where inside the boat.
This number is same as the external hull number but generally is not in plain sight and acts as a means to identify boats were the external hull number is missing or has been altered. Not sure when this practice was started but maybe somebody on this sight might have run across this number on the Pearson 26 and can point you in the right direct.

Happy Sailing no matter what the hull id# is

Hi

You can try Nopper Transmission in Fairhaven Mass. 508-993-5050. They maybe able to help you out.

Hi

Just to clarify things the Volvo transmission and the Walters V-Drive are two separated units and can be separated. From the sounds of things the transmission is the problem because you can power forward.

You may want to try Rig Rite Inc. in Rhode Island. Their website is www.RigRite.com. They supplied a lot of the original sailing hardware, including chain plates and Stem fittings  for Pearson back in that era.  Good Luck

Deck Mounted Hardware / Re: the pearson 323 companionway

I agree. I had thought of installing a 1 inch, stainless steel, floor to ceiling post in the little corner where the nav station and the back of the starboard settee meet. You could grab it with your right hand as you come down the companionway.

On my 323 #360 it is a pump to pump out the water that drains from the ice box/refrigerator.

I also agree with the dripless shaft seal. I did mine in the mid 90's with no problems to report. The shaft does not have to come completely off in either case but the flange that connects the shaft to the transmission/v-drive does have to come off so that you can slide a new hose on or a new dripless shaft seal on to the prop shaft.

All

I also did that and replaced the old traveler set up with a new Harkin traveler system.

I may have all the old blocks and other parts in my spare parts draw.  if you want a used block setup let me know and I will see what I have left.

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Re: Cleaning the water tanks
« on: June 12, 2020, 11:28:51 PM »
Hi

I recently searched the internet for cleaning water tanks and read that for plastic tanks to use vinegar. I used a half of cup for each tank. I let it sit in there for several days.  It seemed to make a difference in my tanks but they were not as bad as yours sound.

Good Luck

Deck Mounted Hardware / split stern rail

That is very slick and a great idea.

Did you remove the stern rail or did they do the modifications in place?

Interior Structures / Re: Interior Cushion replacement

Hi

This maybe out of your travel range but when I had all my cushions replaced on Total Chaos hull # 360 I used Art's Auto and Marine in Brockton Mass. 508-586-2137.  At the time I was working for a multi-line power boat dealer and Art's did all the cushion and canvas work for them.  I am very happy with the results.

Hi

Sounds like a previous owner added the 12v receptacle to power something, who know what. Maybe a 12v TV or a spotlight or a phone charger. Most likely it goes to the electrical panel or maybe directly to a battery.  Is it live ? Can you plug in a phone charger?

Steering System, Hull Structure / Re: Keel bolts

Hi

There aren't any keel bolts on the Pearson 323. The lead keel in incapsulated   in fiberglass.

Engine and Drive Train / Re: no water strainer?
« on: November 01, 2019, 09:38:29 PM »

Hi

I don't think so. My 323 has a Groco water strainer between the raw water inlet seacock and the transmission intake. Most boats have some type of filtering system in place to prevent debris from fouling the cooling system. It should be easy to retrofit by splicing the intake line and mounting a filtering system.

« on: August 02, 2019, 08:47:59 PM »
Hi

I just replaced the water heater on my 1982  323.  The cylinder shape water heater that I took out was a 6 gallon Raritan , model 170611, with heat exchanger, The measurements were very close to yours. Check out their website for exact specifications. It was NOT cheap but it worked in the space allocated without a lot of extra modifications
