Title: 1979 Pearson 323 Volvo Transmission V-Drive replacement or repair?
Post by: BWRI on March 22, 2021, 07:26:07 PM
Hello all,

We just purchased a 1979 Pearson 323 (Hull #164) with the Volvo MD11C motor and V-drive transmission. We sailed it from Miami to Cape Canaveral and the motor did fine (only ~900 hours on the hour meter), but reverse stopped working. It is strange in that it will go into reverse once and then not again the rest of the day. We have contacted all of the local marine diesel mechanics and they stated that they are unable to get parts for this anymore.

Does anyone have a V-drive transmission they are interested in selling or know how to get ours repaired or rebuilt?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi

Just to clarify things the Volvo transmission and the Walters V-Drive are two separated units and can be separated. From the sounds of things the transmission is the problem because you can power forward.

Steve, yes, just the transmission is under question as the motor seems to run very well, in fact we put just over 20 hours on the motor in our travels north. Thank you so much for the contact, I will look them up and give them a call.

Hello! I am having a similar issue with my MD11C. It just won’t go in reverse. Were you able to solve the problem? If so, what was it?

Thanks,
Kiron
