Title: P323 Stuffing Box Hose Replacement

Can someone walk through what is done to replace the hose (stuffing box to shaft log) and double hose clamps?  I understand the prop shaft needs to be decoupled but does it need to come completely out of the boat in a P323?  Also, can you completely remove it without removing the rudder?

This is a "time is of the essence" request as I am close to purchase of a 323 and this may affect the decision.

I have never replaced my stuffing box hose, so I can't comment on whether or not the shaft needs to be removed.

I can say, however, that rudder removal is NOT necessary.  The 323 has a full skeg-hung rudder, so rudder removal wouldn't help as the skeg would still be in the way.

The 323 has an offset angled shaft so that the shaft (with the prop removed) will just clear the rudder & skeg. (see photo)

If you are doing this work, you may want to consider replacing it with a PSS drip-free seal. A dry bilge is nice!

I 2nd the PSS dripless! If you're going to remove the shaft anyway, you might as well go maintenance and water free :)  I've had mine since 2012. Replaced the rubber 2019, and no big deal.

I also agree with the dripless shaft seal. I did mine in the mid 90's with no problems to report. The shaft does not have to come completely off in either case but the flange that connects the shaft to the transmission/v-drive does have to come off so that you can slide a new hose on or a new dripless shaft seal on to the prop shaft.
