We got 3rd out of 10.  Had 5 races in everything from 20+ to <5.
The autopilot wheel exploded during a crowded mark rounding.
Even though we had a crowd of friends on board, we were comfortable and fast.  And the best looking boat out there.

Engine and Drive Train / Engine stalls in forward gear
« on: September 20, 2019, 03:18:56 PM »
Good afternoon,
Out engine makes a whining noise and stalls when shifted into forward gear.  We will dive on her to check the prop tomorrow.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

I swear this is the last whisker pole question I will ask for a while :)
Do you use a topping lift for the pole?  If so, how is it rigged?
I am sure an internally lead mast sheave is best...but we don't have the luxury of being able to drop the mast.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!

Mast and Spar Issues / drilling in mast
« on: March 02, 2018, 09:28:41 AM »
In a standard mast /wiring configuration, will I have any problems drilling holes for the track for the whisker pole?
Will I hit wires?
I know masts wiring vary...
Thanks!

Ports & Hatches / Anchor locker hatch
« on: February 21, 2018, 11:02:56 AM »
Anyone replaced the anchor locker hatch?
Any ideas of sourcing a new one, or replacing the existing one?
This is down the list, but it will move up quickly as time progresses.
Thanks!

Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / what whisker pole to get?
« on: February 07, 2018, 02:10:53 PM »
So, in the race this past weekend, we were 3rd to the weather mark behind a couple of J boats and got left behind going down wind.  We do not have a whisker pole, and my crew decided that we needed one.  My comment was "when I get an extra $1,500.00 I have no other use for..."

Are there other options besides the forespar telescoping model?  Anyone have a used one they don't want?
Thanks!

Interior Structures / blinds for windows

I need to replace the curtains, a friend suggested that I do "blinds" instead.  Has anyone used that solution?
Thanks in advance!

Sails and Canvas / waterproofing bimini
« on: June 19, 2017, 01:29:28 PM »
So the bimini now leaks under a heavyish rain.  It seems that the fabric becomes saturated easily.  The dodger and fly are fine.
I have seen many opinions of what works for waterproofing.
What have YOU used that works?
Thanks!

Plumbing and Galley Systems / P323 - sump pump switch
« on: May 19, 2017, 02:12:54 PM »
Hi,
We have not used the shower drain, but I am reading in the OM that the vanity sink drains into the shower sump pump.  Where is the switch usually located to operate that pump?
Thanks!

Engine and Drive Train / Has anyone replaced the shifter cable?
« on: March 13, 2017, 03:16:44 PM »
We have an Atomic 4 gas and v drive.  Does anyone know part numbers and length of cable needed? I thought I saw a thread from a guy who did this work, but I can not find it now.
Many thanks!

General Discussion / Winterizing?
« on: October 24, 2016, 02:59:04 PM »
Another newbie question..
I live on Lake Lanier, GA.  That is about 50 or so miles north of Atlanta.  The arctic for you folks in FL, the tropics for you folks up north!
Our lake does not typically freeze.  The air temps do get below freezing.
Do I need to do anything to winterize the boat?  We have the fresh water cooling system. Do we need to do anything with the raw water side?  Anything with the holding tank or water tanks?
We will be pulling the boat sometime in teh next months to do a bottom job.  Will that make a difference in what we do to the systems?
Thanks in advance.

Boat Handling / First sail
« on: October 04, 2016, 02:14:35 PM »
So, our first sail on the boat happened to be in the cruising fleet at the Barefoot Open regatta.  We got a 2nd overall.  Not too shabby!  I had never driven a wheel and we had not raised the main before this regatta.  The winds were typical Lake Lanier, light to crappy and shifty.  I think we are going to LOVE this boat in a breeze. On the way home we got to try out the "spinnaker".  The previous owner had never flown it in the 10 years he had the boat.  Does anyone have ideas about where to mount the tack to facilitate easy gybing?  Also it is in a "sock".  Where should be tie the lines off for that?
Thanks!

Engine and Drive Train / accessing the back of the engine
« on: August 01, 2016, 01:59:33 PM »
Hi,
On our second trip out, we got a squealing sound and the water stopped pumping.  Thank goodness she is a SAIL boat.
Anyway, the impellers are fine, so we are thinking it is the belt.  We have an A4 with the v drive and the fresh water cooling.  How in the hell does one access the back of the engine?  I have gotten a mechanic's mirror, but would love to know if the back can actually be accessed.  In looking at the sail lockers, there does not seem to be an access point.  Ideas?
Thanks!

New Member Introductions / Introduction/new owner
« on: July 08, 2016, 03:01:30 PM »
Hello all,
My name is Edith Collins and I am at Lake Lanier, GA.  We just purchased hull #203 and brought her up from St. Pete.  We will be re-christening her as Encontrado. My Uncle had one of the original Triton's on Perdido Bay, AL and we are naming our Pearson after his boat.  Our boat will eventually end up on Perdido Bay as well.
I have a Santana 20 which my Husband and I have raced since 1985 and I am a US Sailing Judge.  This "big boat" thing is very new and definitely intimidating. The previous owners took amazing care of her, so there are not too many "projects".
Forgive my stupid questions in advance.
Take care,
Edith Collins
