Title: Mast winch mounting screws
Post by: Ford33 on September 17, 2019, 09:03:40 PM
I’m thinking of upgrading the mast winches on a 74 p33. I believe they are original Lewmar 16s. Any advice to getting out the 5 mounting screws. I think at this point they might be “welded”. I’ve tried to unscrew them to no avail, before I break something and make it a huge job i’d Rather plan “B” it.

I've had success using a penetrant, such as PBBlaster, and a cordless impact driver. Got both mast winches off of my P323 that way without breaking anything.

Re-assembled with TefGel on all the screws. Hopefully this will make it easier next time.

On CHANCE hull 10 ,I have also heated the bolts with a small torch.  What your doing is expanding the bolts then cooling to break it free. I have done this on the emergency tiller port to break it free after a number years not being open. Also use penetrating oil big screw driver and tap it with hammer as you turn.  Sometimes I have try tightening the bolt then back it off .  Good Luck Bob K
