Title: P323 Short Mast?
Post by: Captain Bri on December 28, 2017, 01:59:07 PM
While researching mast and rigging updates for my P323 I noticed a shorter measurement for the mast above DWL in the original 1978 owners manual on page 5.  It shows a height of 37' 1" instead of the published 45' 4".  Is it possible some of the early boats were shipped with a "short mast" or is it just a misprint from some early documentation?  Just wondering...

I will measure the mast tip to tail and deck to top once the weather he in Boston breaks.

Here is a quote from Chance that provides a mast measurement for Hull #10 which seems consistent with the 45' 4" spec for mast height.  Perhaps the 37' 1" height was from pre-production documentation.

The  mast of Chance  pearson 323 1977  which is laying on saw horse for the winter.  I measure today is 46 feet 6 and 1/2 inches, that measurement was from the bottom of the al tube to the top of al tube.  This does not include the top mast head , which goes on top of the tube  has all blocks in it for the jib , main and spin hoist .                                                  Bob Kraus CHANCE  Hull 10  41 years
