Title: P30 - Bilge Pump Thru-Hull
Post by: Escapade on April 14, 2020, 09:54:18 AM
Hi all,

I'm curious how most people with P30s plumb their bilge pumps.  Particularly I'm curious if people run the hose all the way aft to a thru hull on the transom?  As I'm sure everyone knows, the keel sump is very shallow and it only fits a small pump below the cabin sole.  Having a small pump with a long hose run and ~3 feet of rise (head) to the thru hull, the pump will certainly operate at a reduced GPH rating than it's listed for.  I don't see many sailboats with thru-hulls on the sides of the hull, so is the transom what most people recommend despite the long hose run?  If that is the case, would people recommend using smaller diameter hose to reduce the weight of water in the hose and the amount of water flowing back into the bilge after the pump shuts off?  Thanks for sharing your experience!

Odd as this sounds, my '77 323 pumps the bilge via a y-connector into the port cockpit scupper drain hose. The galley sink also drains into the same joint.

Hi Gentlemen!

Forgive me for piggy-backing on to your conversation, but I have a 1967 Renegade that I am trying to sort out the plumbing on for my bilge pump. There was not one installed when I acquired her last year, so I don't have any prior plumbing to go by. I was wondering if you folks or anyone else that may see this post would know if the Renegade plumbed her bilge discharge hose the same way (i.e.; running into the port cockpit scupper drain tube along with the sink drain, which mine also does.)?  If so, can you tell me where the bilge hose connects? Meaning, does bilge discharge hose connect to the 'Y' connector with the sink drain, and then the outlet of the 'Y' connect directly to the port cockpit drain tube? or is there a short hose from the 'Y' connector outlet to another 'T' into the cockpit drain tube?

Thanks for any insights!

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I've attached a picture that I happen to have that shows the white ribbed bilge discharge hose connecting to the backside of the sink/scupper hose. I'll stop by the boat tomorrow and take a better photo.

Thanks so much! So is that the cockpit scupper or the sink drain just up and to the left?

Thanks again! This really helps.

This is a side view of the three hoses draining out of the port seacock beneath the cockpit. The new black bilge hose(previous pic showed old white hose) drains into the cockpit scupper hose which drains into the galley sink hose.
