Title: Pearson 34 Rudder Removal
Post by: stickboy on June 04, 2019, 11:09:32 PM
Hi All, I removed the rudder from my 1984 P34 #67 today. I couldn't find any documentation online on how to approach it but fortunately I have a friend that had done his so I wasn't flying totally blind. I took a bunch of pics, I'll see how many I can get in here to save it for future reference.

Had to remove the quadrant (radial drive wheel). The stainless bolts in the aluminum casting was tough to break free, I ended up using an electric impact driver, I HIGHLY recommend this.

Here's a shot from the front showing it split down the middle on the leading edge and across the top. Also a shot show how I lowered it and plan to reinstall it.

Successfully split the rudder down the centerline. Glad I did, the internal stainless structure was just shy of failing.

What did you do once you found that the stainless plate was about to fail? Were you able to locate a replacement or have a new rudder built? Thanks.
