Plumbing and Galley Systems / Re: Deck drain/scuppers P31-2

I just replaced mine with fittings in stock at west marine.  They worked perfectly.
It was $54.00 or so.

We got 3rd out of 10.  Had 5 races in everything from 20+ to <5.
The autopilot wheel exploded during a crowded mark rounding.
Even though we had a crowd of friends on board, we were comfortable and fast.  And the best looking boat out there.

Engine and Drive Train / Engine stalls in forward gear
« on: September 20, 2019, 03:18:56 PM »
Good afternoon,
Out engine makes a whining noise and stalls when shifted into forward gear.  We will dive on her to check the prop tomorrow.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

New Member Introductions / Re: Wrecked in transit
« on: April 24, 2018, 01:37:25 PM »
Wow, sorry to hear that.  I hope the transit company was properly insured.
I would check and see what other masts are the same length as ours. When I needed a new mast for the Santana 20, we found that the mast "blank" was the same as that for a mcgregor 26, which were closer to get. We did have to re tap all of the fittings, but that was not too bad as we had the old mast as a guide.

Is the topping lift internal?
I too have the line controlled pole.  On my spin pole, it is a wire that is attached on either end of the pole with a ring in the middle.  So the line control would not matter.
I want to try to be simple though, so the spin halyard seems good.
Dulce, where is your downhaul attached to the pole?
Thanks!

Great.  Does the halyard go to the outboard end, or did you do a bridle like on a spin pole?
If you had a picture , that would be great!
Thanks for your help!

I swear this is the last whisker pole question I will ask for a while :)
Do you use a topping lift for the pole?  If so, how is it rigged?
I am sure an internally lead mast sheave is best...but we don't have the luxury of being able to drop the mast.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!

Thanks! Pole is being shipped today.  I appreciate everyone's help. I am very relieved that the consensus is that a 15 foot pole should be susificent.  Our next race is on April 21st, We need to put the track on the mast, but hopefully that is something we can do after work.

FYI, several of you have commented that "it is illegal to use a pole over the J of the boat while racing."
As a US Sailing National Judge, I feel compelled to comment on that statement.
The only time a "pole" is mentioned in the Racing Rules of Sailing is in 50.3 (c) and it says that " a headsail may be sheeted or attached at its clew to a spinnaker pole or a whisker pole, provided that a spinnaker is not already set."

The PHRF rules limit a spinnaker pole to the length of J but, (at least on my lake) there are no limitations to the size of the whisker pole. Your PHRF folks may be much meaner than ours.

Thanks again!

I have been offered a forespar 7-15 for $200.00
The specs say we should have a 10-18.  I have a furling headsail with a maximum of 142%.
Will the 3 feet make a difference?
Thanks for all of your help!

Mast and Spar Issues / drilling in mast
« on: March 02, 2018, 09:28:41 AM »
In a standard mast /wiring configuration, will I have any problems drilling holes for the track for the whisker pole?
Will I hit wires?
I know masts wiring vary...
Thanks!

Ports & Hatches / Anchor locker hatch
« on: February 21, 2018, 11:02:56 AM »
Anyone replaced the anchor locker hatch?
Any ideas of sourcing a new one, or replacing the existing one?
This is down the list, but it will move up quickly as time progresses.
Thanks!

Thanks for the confirmation on the track length and the stanchion mount!
I have a lead on a used pole and my Husband reminded me that I can use the pole car off of his Cal 227!
Hopefully this will fall into place before our next big race in April.
I appreciate each of you!!!

Thanks!
Would 4 feet be enough?

I discovered Garhauer when I broke the Schaefer genoa car in a blow.  Coming from the racing world, I had never heard of them.  The friend who loaned me a car for the next day's race, turned me onto them. They are a bargain at twice the price! That is the vang we want.  I need to look into moving the hatch, etc.
Husband wants the pole first...

Next question about the whisker pole; do y'all have the pad eye on a movable car on a track like you would a spinnaker, or do you have a fixed pad eye?
I know which forespar pole to get, but don't know the part numbers for the other stuff. Also, the stanchion mounted pole storage looks great.  I need to check the other thread for comments on that.
Thanks!
