Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Re: Loose Bonding wire

I had replaced the valve, through hull and strainer a few years ago. That stud must have detached from the strainer some time ago. I should be able to simply extend that wire over to my valve to accomplish the same bonding.

Is there a bonding wire attached to it from the inside of the bilge?

Is it safe to assume there is nothing inside the bilge wall that that stud was specifically screwed to that needed to be bonded?  I'm thinking that stud is there as a means to attach a jumper wire to the through hull ball valve a few inches from it.  What's the best way to attach the wire to the valve without removing the valve?  I've attached a picture that I thought I had attached earlier.

Well, sort of. It's portside wall of the bilge above the keel looking to stern.

I found this loose bonding stud the other day. It's in the bilge near the engine raw water through hull. The stud just pulls right out. It may have broke away from something buried in the fiberglass like a bonding strip of some sort.  The other end of the wire is attached to the engine. I replaced the seacock a few years ago and am pretty sure it wasn't connected to this wire. I'm not sure how to fix this. I've attached pics.

Wow! That will be a nice improvement. Neat how you created that view. Awesome boat.

Nice set up! I wound up cutting into the pedestal guard bar and fed the wires through that and continued through the cockpit floor.  I meant to say ferrites! Ha

Ha, ya, I had to give up on my Autohelm 3000.  It was unreliable but somewhat useful.

I had my installation planned out in my head(mistake) based on the illustration in the manual.  Missed minor details like length of cables!  I'm thinking about running the backbone cable up alongside the pedestal and using a short spur to connect the controller.  Perhaps I'll mount the ACU next to the compass and block already mounted starboard and aft of the monel fuel tank.  Then connect block and ACU to house batteries in port lazarette.

Three other questions:

1. How did you get cables through cockpit floor?

2. How did you mount the controller?  I'm thinking a ball and socket type thing to clamp to the pedestal bar.

3. Did you install the ferrules included with the kit?

Thanks,
Tim

I'm installing the Evolution 100 and have just realized the 3 ft. spur cable to connect the controller at the top of the pedestal isn't long enough to reach the block I installed on the wood beam aft of the fuel tank.  Am I missing something simple or do I need to buy a longer spur?

I'll have to experiment with that!  I'm not hopeful as all my sailing is around the islands of western Lake Erie where winds shift constantly.  Also, my wind vane is caput so that'll mean further investment to replace that.  Uhg

I have Echomap Plus 63cv which has one NMEA 0183 output port which I currently connect to my VHF.

I don't suppose my Garmin Echomap would connect?  It has NMEA 0183 functionality.  It is currently connected to my VHF for distress messaging.  I'm still researching whether they would communicate.

If not, I would need a Raymarine MFD(such as A50D) to do these two functions relative to the EV-100:  1.update firmware and 2. Set waypoints.  Is that correct?

I see that used A50D's are still running about $300.  I paid $500 for my new Echomap!  I could borrow someone's Ipad(assuming it connects) to update firmware and live with magnetic heading steering.

I really don't want to use a Garmin retrofit autopilot due to much higher cost.

Will the EV-100 operate as a stand-alone unit?  That is, does it need to connect to a chartplotter?

I'm considering buying the EV-100 wheel pilot with P70S control head.  My analog Autohelm 3000 is unreliable if not completely shot.  Installation sounds like a pain but overall the comments here are favorable.  I'm a bit concerned about connectivity with my Garmin Echomap chartplotter.  Anyone with experience hooking these together?
