Steering System, Hull Structure / Pearson 323 Skeg
« Last post by 323Voyager on December 05, 2023, 05:28:38 PM »
Hi,
Now that my Pearson 323 is on the hard, I need to address an issue found during the survey. The skeg had a crack forming at the lower gudgeon.
I chipped away all of the loose material and found that it was a really thin layer of some type of filler, and it did not bond with the bronze gudgeon underneath (See pics attached).
So my question is, whats the best way to repair this? Do I just cover with epoxy filler, fair, paint and bottom paint? Or do I use a few layers of glass?

Will do.  I'll post the design specs on the forum.

Once done, if you could post your results and costs, that would be great as this is a common subject on both the Pearson Forums :)   If it works out, would be nice to have a CDN source!

THANKS!!!

Thanks.  Mass Precision Plastics in Whitby does custom marine tanks - so I think I'll source locally...I'll just need to make some mock-ups to get the correct dimensions.....thanks again for the help.

You're welcome, and yes, my holding tank is under the V-berth, and 2 water tanks in the cabin area.  I can't help with the exchange, but could provide assistance with bringing it up from the US, especially with the Toronto Boat Show in January if you can find what you need with Triple-M.  Being in Hamilton area myself, I'm not aware of anyone off hand to provide the tanks custom made, but if you do find someone, be sure to compare all final costs first :)     Could be very expensive here in the end????

Again, good luck!

Thanks.  Very helpful.  By the look of your drawing, looks like your holding tank might be under the v-berth?  The boat I am working on has the holding tank (bag) under the starboard settee along with one water tank.  Triple-M looks good, but I am in Canada so will likely look for someone local to save on the shipping, import duty and currency exchange.  But thanks again...

Try

http://triplemplastics.us/#&panel1-3.

They've made many for Pearsons, and may know and have what you need.

You may find some FYI info here as well :)

Strange yours has bags, and unless I'm mistaken, likely replaced original tanks at some point.  My 90 31-2 are all solid.

This is what my holding tank's dimensions are, and looks like, but yours could be different.

Hi - I doing some work for a client who has a 1983 (might be 1984) Pearson 34 who wants the water and holding tanks replaced.  The boat currently has soft-sided bags.  Does anyone happen to have specifications for these tanks (or do I need to build a mock-up with cardboard)?  Thanks in advance.

I dont have the measurements for you but do you have a picture of how the cable that raises the swing keep is attached to the keel?  The hardware is missing on mine and Im trying to figure out what i need.  I have a 23 also.

If anyone has a picture of a Parson 23 of how the cable that picks up the swing keel is attached to the keel I'd love to see it.
