Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Jib Car replacement
« on: August 10, 2021, 10:25:54 AM »
So the sheaves on both of my genoa jib car blocks disintegrated this weekend during some heavy sailing.  Is it possible to get the jib cars off by just taking off a few screws of the jib track instead of taking off the whole track?  Has anyone done this?

Sails and Canvas / New to flying a spinnaker
« on: June 15, 2021, 05:33:13 PM »
Hello,
We just got out our symmetrical spinnaker and will be learning how to use it soon. There are no blocks that I can see to run the sheets through to the secondary winches. Does anyone have any pictures of their current set up they could share.  If you can't load them here, send them to me at sailrxsin@gmail.com.

Interior Structures / What to do with head sink structure
« on: May 24, 2021, 02:53:10 PM »
So we recently completed a complete refit of our fresh water system.  In the process, we decided to take out the sink in the head, because we never really used it, we always just walk to the galley and wash our hands.  So what to do with this space now.  We thought about cutting off the top of the fiberglassed sink recess and then placing a hinged wood top and using the space below for something like towel storage.

Has anyone else removed that sink and made something more useful with the extra space?  Just looking for ideas and recs.

Engine and Drive Train / Impeller change
« on: March 06, 2021, 04:02:27 AM »
Nothing really to report except that this past week, I had to change the impeller on my 323 that was repowered with a Betamarine 25 V-drive.  I am very broad shouldered, have spent most of my life lifting weights daily.  OMG THAT SPACE IS TIGHT!!  WHAT A PAIN!!  Think next time I will have to hire it out to our local repair guy who is about half my size.  >:( :( :-\

Plumbing and Galley Systems / What was this for?
« on: January 25, 2021, 04:18:55 PM »
On my boat it is not connected to anything.   Anyone else have this and know its purpose?  I am referring to the cylindrical pump item.

Plumbing and Galley Systems / More fresh water tank questions
« on: July 25, 2020, 03:06:44 AM »
So I have determined that the only way I will get the layer of grime out of the freshwater tanks is to remove some of the glass from the setee and make some larger access ports that I could use to really clean the tanks well.  My problem is what do I do once I get a couple of 6 inch or so diameter ports on the tanks.  From what I've read, nothing adheres to polyethylene very well at all, save for some Marine Tex Flex Set.  Maybe keep the pieces I cut out and then place a splint on top of them to hold them in place while I reseal with Flex Set?

Any and all ideas apprecitated.

Has anyone here completely replaced the original freshwater tank system, lines, and all?

Newbie question here so if this seems silly, just bear with me.  I need to change out the male shore power receptacle.  Do I need to disconnect the batteries to prevent getting shocked when doing this?

Deck Mounted Hardware / Traveler Blocks
« on: June 12, 2020, 05:05:06 AM »
Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the small blocks on the traveler that are just labeled "Australia"? I can't seem to find any that fit well and they very much need replacing

Thanks
Skipper

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Cleaning the water tanks
« on: June 12, 2020, 04:58:24 AM »
RxSin is hull #353, 1982.  We just got her in December and recently inspected the water tanks and they are disgusting.  a significant layer of brown sludge has built up and as everyone here knows, very limited access to the interior of the tanks for cleaning.  I have ran bleach with water through them but this has not helped.

I wish I could find a small power washer with a flexible shaft to help clean.  Does anyone have any ideas or solutions for me?

Thanks,
Skipper

Mast and Spar Issues / 323 spreader bar width
« on: May 04, 2020, 09:18:40 PM »
Anyone know or have a mast down that can give me the spreader bar width.  I know it tapers, so towards the ends would be helpful.  Looking to install some spreader boots.

Interior Structures / Plas-teak or other synthetics
« on: March 21, 2020, 05:18:05 PM »
Has anyone replaced the sole with Plas-teak or similar syntetic flooring?  Our is badly damaged in some spots and I am reluctant to replace with wood again in case there is another leak.  What? A sailboat have a leak?  I know, crazy right?

Thanks,
Skipper and Cindy

Plumbing and Galley Systems / Adding a fridge
« on: December 27, 2019, 06:18:27 PM »
So our Pearson has a gas leak near the tank and apparently, looking at old surveys on the boat, it has been this way for probably at least ten years.  In our little use of the boat so far, we have not had any need for an oven, we have cooked steaks and such fine on an electric skillet and the outside grill.

So we have been considering just removing the stove and that space would make a great spot for a little like dorm fridge.  We are not going overnight or anything, the lake we are on is pretty small.  It would mainly be an asset to keep some things cold like meat and cheese on the boat when we are connected to shore power.

Has anyone done this?

New Member Introductions / Hello from Skipper and Cindy!! RxSin!!
« on: December 27, 2019, 02:19:03 PM »
We are Skipper and Cindy, the new owners of Deep Ship.  She is a hull #353 and was born in March 1982.  This is our very first sailboat and we are so excited to have found such a great vessel to learn and experience sailing. We are also brand new to sailing and just completed our ASA 101 course in September, 2019

Her previous owner took very good care of her and there was very little cleaning to do. However there are plenty of improvements we would like to make and we look forward to everyone’s help on this issue through this forum.  Everyone on this platform seems to be interested in helping and we are thankful for all of you.

Our survey went really well and the major items that need to be repaired are a couple of stanchions on the port side have some moisture damage. Also the decking around the mast has some moisture and that will be a haul out Job that will probably be done next year sometime. We have already had our local repairman look at this for us well as our surveyor, and they both said that it was something that could wait a year.

Our dream, of course like most of you probably, is to someday get away from this landlocked region that were in now and become cruisers. We have a couple of kids that we need to get through high school before setting off.  And this plan gives us a good 5 to 6 years of learning and fine-tuning our sailing and boat maintenance and repair skills.

We have not been able to have our renaming ceremony yet, her new name will be RxSin.

We would especially love to make contact with any other Pearson owners in the DFW area.

Electrical Systems & Electronics / Question
« on: December 25, 2019, 08:10:04 PM »
Hello,
We are brand new to the sailing world and just purchased hull 353!  We are definitely novices to learning sailboat systems and will have many questions that will seem silly to most of you.  First question: There is a 12V receptor just aft of the Mars in the salon.   The wires go back to the bilge area but I lost it there.  Anyone else have this or a clue as to what it might control?  I’m trying to upload a picture but reducing the file size is a royal pain on the iPad.

Thanks,
Skipper

Engine and Drive Train / Free Volvo Penta Impellerr
« on: December 18, 2019, 12:33:49 PM »
Hello,
I just purchased my Pearson and thankfully the previous owner had the engine replaced in 2015 with beta marine diesel. I found this impeller for use on the previous engine, part no. 875583-7.  If anyone wants it, I can mail to you, in the USA.   First to request it gets it.

Thanks,
Skipper
