Mast and Spar Issues / New Mast Step
« on: August 11, 2022, 01:22:11 AM »

Update on New Mast Step 2022. Mike from San Diego reached out to me and I was able to have a Fabricator in San Pedro CA. Make a beautiful new aluminum mast step. It turned out nicer than the one I gave him to copy. The fabricator charged 1,000  to make it as he put alot work into making jigs to get the exact copy. If anyone needs one he can make them for you. He has the patterns in his shop.

They are custom made with your hull number and $100 each. If they have enough orders that they could lower the price, that would be good for all. They are super high end quality.  I was impressed and surprised how nice they are. Worth the price I think.

Ports & Hatches / Re: Ports

Really nice. I replaced my four forward ports this year with Newfound metal ports and they are such an improvement. I have thought about your Idea many times. I think it’s very possible with some teak interior trim to cover the changes.

If anyone is interested, I have a brand new  white hatch For over the main cabin. I never installed it and would take 400.00 plus shipping cost. You can email me at rbrtfeld@aol.com for pictures if needed

Sounds like a great setup. Keep this site informed with pictures. Would love to see it when you get it done. Any idea on the projected costs?

I might be interested in that engine for parts. I have been thinking about repowering but mine runs pretty well as well. What are you repowering with. I am south of you in Long Beach Area. I have been thinking about Beta Marine. Text me at 406-855-6682 when you get that engine out

Works great for me. Let me know if you have any other questions. My Canvas guy came up with this Idea 10 years ago and it still looks like new when I use it. Sunbrella fabric is really the best. Good luck on yours

Here are some pictures of my Cockpit cover I use at anchor or in the slip. It keeps us pretty dry if raining and works great to cool off the Cockpit in direct Sun. Made with sunbrella

Another idea for you to consider if you have a dodger:  I have a matching sunbrella length of canvas that attaches to the Dodger and then to the back stay. The aft section has a sleeve that I slip in an expandable rod. The sides have bungee cords that hold it in place. It’s not totally dry but works fine. The beauty of it is that it take 2 or three minutes to assemble or take off. It cools off the cockpit off a lot when the sun is beating down on you at anchor or in the slip. I will try to send some pictures later this month when I am on the boat. I don’t remember it costing that much but I try to mentally block out the real costs of boat ownership. Ha ha.

Not sure what your planning for material but when I did mine in 2011 I found a site online called Toto fabric.com. I was able to get Brisa leather at a super discounted rate. They have lots of great fabrics you might want to check out. I used a professional upholstery shop and they did a great job. Good luck
