Raymarine EV-100 Autopilot

I'm installing the Evolution 100 and have just realized the 3 ft. spur cable to connect the controller at the top of the pedestal isn't long enough to reach the block I installed on the wood beam aft of the fuel tank.  Am I missing something simple or do I need to buy a longer spur?

You are correct, you will need to take an inventory of the cables that you will to connect your runs, over and above what came with the auto pilot.
Unfortunately those cables are pricey.
Take your time and plan out your installation to mitigate the long cable runs
Once you have the correct "runs" (cables) the install is, a piece of cake.
Just a side note.
In 1982 I purchased a belt driven autopilot form the U.K. which was the forerunner of the Raytheon Autohelm.
The Autohelm was ineffective while sailing. Motoring was the only time I used it.
The EV-100 works extremely well in sail & motor

Ha, ya, I had to give up on my Autohelm 3000.  It was unreliable but somewhat useful. 

I had my installation planned out in my head(mistake) based on the illustration in the manual.  Missed minor details like length of cables!  I'm thinking about running the backbone cable up alongside the pedestal and using a short spur to connect the controller.  Perhaps I'll mount the ACU next to the compass and block already mounted starboard and aft of the monel fuel tank.  Then connect block and ACU to house batteries in port lazarette.

Three other questions:

1. How did you get cables through cockpit floor?

2. How did you mount the controller?  I'm thinking a ball and socket type thing to clamp to the pedestal bar.

3. Did you install the ferrules included with the kit?

I installed a cable gland on the floor next to the pedestal guard I was mounting the drive motor on. Not elegant but it works.

I drilled and tapped 2 holes in the pedestal for the long peg/bar that locates and prevents the inner ring on the wheel from moving.

Not sure which ferrules you are describing.

I finalized the install with a nav pod and a bent pedestal guard.

Nice set up! I wound up cutting into the pedestal guard bar and fed the wires through that and continued through the cockpit floor.  I meant to say ferrites! Ha

the ferrites go on the seatalk wire that plugs into the rear of the P70s control head. the problem with ferrites are they can interfere with a magnetic compass so you need to check to see if you will have any deviation when you decide where the final installation will be. You can see where mine is in relation to the compass in the previous post. I have no issues where it's mounted.
