I don't see why you couldn't move it forward. Especially since you probably have the length needed by extending the mini-turnbuckle at the base (or replacing with new turnbuckle for more room). Most boats I've seen with a furler have it positioned as far forward as possible, which can allow for a smaller jib to be attached with a snap shackle or similar in the aft hole and still run up the track of the furler.
