Tachometer Sender (MD11C)

Rusty Pelican:
Has anyone replace the Tachometer sender on a Volvo MD-IIC?
The sender is a funky sort of hardware, not sure how to attack it 
I have diagnosed that it is not the Tach gauge.
It would be nice to have a working Tach, not mission critical.
