whisker pole topping lift

I swear this is the last whisker pole question I will ask for a while :)
Do you use a topping lift for the pole?  If so, how is it rigged?
I am sure an internally lead mast sheave is best...but we don't have the luxury of being able to drop the mast.
Any ideas?

Any unused halyard will do.  I use our spinnaker halyard.

Don't forget a downhaul too.  If you lead it to the base of the mast, it will be independent of the sheet, and you won't have to release it every time you want to trim the sheet.

Great.  Does the halyard go to the outboard end, or did you do a bridle like on a spin pole?

I have a dedicated topping lift, installed by the PO. I have a small block halfway up the mast to route the line. It goes to the end of the pole, and I find it very useful in controlling the pole, especially when taking it down. Also, with the jib up, my pole is a perfect length for tacking inside the forestay, and the topping lift keeps it all under control during the tack (of course you end up clipped to the wrong sheet when you do this, but that's not too bad)


I am still working out how to rig a bridle. My issue is twofold: my pole is expandable to deal with the Genoa; and it is an older design pole, so the control line for releasing the pole is on the top, right where I want to put the bridle; and I don't want too many lines in the same spot.  Ho hum. One of the fun things about having your own boat is working out the right solution - sometimes they answer is easy to find, sometimes less so.

Is the topping lift internal?
I too have the line controlled pole.  On my spin pole, it is a wire that is attached on either end of the pole with a ring in the middle.  So the line control would not matter.
I want to try to be simple though, so the spin halyard seems good.
Dulce, where is your downhaul attached to the pole?
