Well, I had the port side upper and forward lower shrouds snap on me the first trip, the transmission cable fail on the second, and the jib rip on the third, but if I keep on fixing things at this rate the boat will be practically new by the end of next year!

Chance:
Can you explain what failed on your shrouds, was it turnbuckles or swage fittings or wire.  Could  it  had been seen as possible problem before it happen ?  My shrouds are check every year but there 40 years old ,fresh water. They still look okay but are old .

I'm running original standing rigging except for the forestay which was included with my roller furler. I think our original rigging is better material than the newer stuff. A look at the picture hanging thread on a Cape Dory will show how robust the standing rigging Bill Shaw specified is. It is not an excuse to not inspect- a broken shroud could kill someone...

But there is no reason to enrich riggers when the 323's rigging is so over built.

I pull my mast every year; for the past 35 years.
I inspect every year;  trying to come up with an excuse to re-rig.
Still waiting.

My shrouds and deck hardware were fitted with turnbuckle like fittings with a double end threaded stud in the center. It was the threaded stud that failed. The wire seemed ok, but the fittings at the ends were rusty so I swapped em’ out. One less thing to worry about!
