Packing for rudder stuffing box
« on: April 12, 2017, 08:07:12 PM »
Does anyone know what size packing is used in the 323 rudder stuffing box?  Is it 3/16 like the shaft?  Can't find it in the original manual or papers.
TIA

I have never in 20 years messed with the rudder stuffing box. I believe it is above the water line... Is yours leaking?

The packing on my rudder stuffing box was the same as the prop shaft. They do leak if not maintained. On mine it was just a very small trickle of water running down under the engine.

Thanks for your input.  I'm not quite sure there is a leak as boat is in yard for annual maintenance.  I will check to see if stuff box is above water line.  Kind of rules out leak if it is.  Repacked about 20 years ago and it seems packing was same as shaft log.
