Oil filter
(1/1)
Frayed Knot:
Changing the oil and filiter today, there has to be a better way. I am thinking on getting a relocation kit to do this. Would like to know your thoughts on this, pro's and con's. I can't think of anything but making it simple to change the filter.
selene:
Not sure what engine you have. Mine is Westerbeke, and the oil filter was relocated to the bulkhead above the engine. Access is easy, so changing is easy (unlike the impeller!). Only thing I would say is ensure the mounting is solid. Sometimes a lot of force is required to unscrew the old filter - not sure why, I change it annually. So consider the rotational force as you mount it. IMHO a worthwhile upgrade. Good luck!
Frayed Knot:
It's and Volvo MD11. The back of the motor comes through the bulkhead towards the cabin. The filter is on the other side of the bulkhead towards the rear about 1/2". Pain in the A.

I think its because the hot oil causes the rubber gasket to swell. This is likely why the instructions always caution to only hand-tighten + 1/4 turn.
Alma:
If you can fine filters with flats on them a dedicated wrench and ratchet handle might be a solution...
