Mainsail on the shrouds
(1/1)
jwspeck:
My mainsail spends a lot of time rubbing on the shrouds in anything further downwind than a beam reach.
There also appears to be a lot of twist in the mainsail even with my vang fully tensioned.
I've attached a picture from sailing wing on wing a couple weekends ago. Yes, I am reefed and the outhaul could have been tighter but it still happens when not reefed.
Do your sails spend a lot of time rubbing the shrouds?
Libations Too:
I think this is a problem common to many sailboats when sailing deep downwind; not just the 323. I know that my sails have a telltale soiling pattern where they meet the shrouds.

Out haul is fine, you want some belly in the sail going downwind, the more drag the better. Going wing and wing is a slow point of sail, but fun, that being said you'd gain a knot or so if you poled out the jib. I never let my main sit on the shrouds.
