Stuffing Box

Anybody come up with a good solution for stuffing box wrenches for our hard-to-get-to stuffing box nuts under the v-drive?

I've been wresteling with this for a week. 

I was thinking of cutting off the handles from a couple of sink trap wrenches to get them to fit.

I also just picked up a wraparound "chain" wrench to try.

I ordered a couple from an Amazon vendor, but they never came.

I ended up making my own tools.  For one, I sawed off the handle of an
adjustable sink trap wrench and welded an old 3/8" socket onto the
handle stub at right angles.  This allowed me to put an extension
and a ratchet on it and get enough force to lock the locking nut.

The other tool was one of those flat stamped sink trap wrenches.
I heated it in the middle with the torch, and bent it at 90 degrees.
This provided a way to hold the packing nut while tightening the
locking nut.

i was able to remove the locking nut with a hammer striking a nailset .due to the fact that the nut and bolts are bronze once i loosened the locking nut i was able to loosen the gland by hand .worked for me .

Hi Guys,

I found a Ridgid hex wrench Model E-110 at a swap meet in Oakland last week and cut about half of the handle off with a hack saw. See the attached photograph.

The tool provides secure purchase on the nut flats. I used it this past weekend. Looking for a second wrench now.

The distance across the flats for both nuts on My Cyn is 2".

Attached is a photograph of Martin Tools service wrench, which I bought on-line and modified. The 2" version of this tool is part number 1264.

Stanley-Proto makes a similar wrench.

I cut approximately 2" off of the handle with a hacksaw. Works well with the adjustable wrench described in my earlier post.
