Pearson Boats - Common Systems > Sails and Canvas
loose or fixed foot
(1/1)
Frayed Knot:
Am ordering a new main sail and everything I have read was loose footed is the way to go. Am I just old school or should I move up with the times.
Last Resort:
Loose fit is the way I've been taught and told since I started sailing in 2007, and works out great for me with the 2 boats I've had, especially the
Pearson 31-2. It's the way I would go.
selene:
Loose foot. Better shape for different outhaul tensions - plus (imho) easier to set/douse. I love my full batten loose foot main!
Alma:
I have a brand new North mainsail loose footed.
It is fantastic and if you haven't priced North lately you may be in for a pleasant surprise.
Frayed Knot:
Here it is from Precision Sails. Changed the tack angle from 88.6 to 85.4. It will rase the boom 7". At 88.6 it was 1" off the dodger. I know it will stretch over the years, the one I have now have to put dodger down to be able to sail.
