I'm sure we're "in the same boat".
no idea how many hours are on this baby, but it looks clean, and it never seems to sputter or quit.

Hey, just wanted to update you, who were nice enough to give us some input.
Engine is NOT shot!
She needed a new starter, which believe it or not we found for $100 sitting on a shelf collecting dust at a mechanic who I found through Lockwood marine in Morgan, NJ (I really strongly recommend them).
Also need to replace the main seal, which is where the small oil drip is coming from.
And I suspect we need to replace the stuffing box... was squealing a bit now and then.
But otherwise.,she purred through the summer.
I guess it's true... it is not easy to kill a diesel.

Catalina.
When I was a kid, growing up in California, I went to boyscout summer camp on Catalina. I have such strong memories of snorkeling in the kelp beds, of the garibaldi, the incredible diversity and amount of sealife, and of hiking around in the hot desert sun. There were buffalo wandering around as well. not sure if they are still there.
Catalina really did feel like a magical place.
It must be just a terrific place to sail to.
Great stuff.
thanks for the post.

Hello Michael.
I add my Greetings and welcome to the site.
I picked up Hull 265 and renamed her "Great Godsea" in 2013, my first boat ever, and I  haven't had a moment of regret.
Ironically, I am moving her to the  western long islandish area this year as well... from Liberty Harbor in Jersey City to Castaways Yacht Club in New Rochelle.

I'm hoping the move will make it easier/quicker for trips out to newport, block and the vineyard this summer.
Anyway, lean on the folks in this forum. they REALLY know their stuff. All great people.
Best Regards,
Mark Godsey

I've got no idea about the bearings. I will try and get a closeup photo. Thanks!

I need to replace the jib furler line. it snapped last summer while under sail, so I did a quick emergency knotting. So, now is the time to replace it.
But when I look at the drum.... I have zero idea how to go about it.
There is no name on the drum so I don't know the model/maker.
I can't see any obvious bolts or screws to remove to get the housing off and I'm very reluctant to start tearing this thing apart.
Youtube and the net so far are not helping me figure this out.
I have to think some of you folks have been through this.
I attach the only photo I have of it. (please ignore the sleeping, seasick/hungover teenager in the forground). just enlarge the picture to see the drum details.

Seeking advice.
Thank you,
Mark

Good Idea. I'm in. If someone is spending money and time maintaining this site... we should all be helping bear the cost.
Thanks for all the work.

Nicely played.

That's very helpful advice. I do have wire rigging and I will approach it exactly in the way suggested... keeping a close eye on the mast. Thank you all, very much.
