Saw the movie friday night in the city. after the show 3 of the producers stopped in for Q+A.
filmed in Baja mostly, on the titanic set
cost 9mm
Robert Redford didnt know how to sail
did most of his own stunt work
pretty interesting film. its interesting how people who don't have boats have no concept of the amount of safety equipment and back up systems and planning that goes into actually sailing a boat. most reviews i read discussed how he was obviously rich because of all the equipment he had aboard.. But the gear basically looks like everything all sailboat owners would stock aboard when going for a cruise (well, maybe a "little" more than usual)... almost any cruise, let alone soloing across the Indian Ocean. anyway. if not worth a trip to the theatre, then it'll be a great video for a cold winters night.

I wish I could see it, but apparently it's not playing anywhere in Florida! With the amount of sailors in the Miami area I'm surprised a theater didn't opt to show it down here...
It looks very good and has gotten great reviews.

FYI, this is now available on Netflix.

All the equipment he had on board? He did not even have an eprirb. Would have made for a less entertaining movie if he did, though.
I've seen it twice, and enjoyed it. There are a few quibbles, of course, but I really liked the condition of the boats - well used, but well maintained. From what I read they actually used 3 boats in the filming, one of which was especially modified for rolling....

Believe they used an older Cal 39. I'm sure they had several for the movie.
I was intrigued with his calm approach; no doubt I would have panicked. Of course there were a few things I would like to think I would have done differently - won't spoil it for others but would like to discuss.

OK. it's been long enough. So no need to worry about being a "spoiler".
What would you do differently?

I'd go to sea in a Pearson.

Nicely played.
