Engine and Drive Train / no water strainer?
« on: November 01, 2019, 04:57:02 PM »
My freshwater intake puts lake water directly into the tranny-then-engine with no water strainer, anywhere. Is that common? I found grit when draining out the water jackets.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Jim

Engine and Drive Train / propeller hits dock line! Yep!
« on: July 02, 2019, 05:16:10 PM »
They say everyone has done it. I made it 35 years before I did it. propeller got wrapped, made some vibrating, killed the engine. It starts and runs now but won't stay in forward or reverse very well at all. Motor dies when operating from F or R into neutral.

Where do I start? I've done visual inspection of the tranny. It shifts as per normal.

thanks,

Engine and Drive Train / tighten packing gland?
« on: June 23, 2019, 10:51:10 AM »
Good morning,
If I wanted to tighten up my packing gland (It's dripping a bit too fast)...

1. Does the prop have to be locked up? Might I lock the shaft with a plumber's wrench from inside? Or swim on it and tie it?
2. Any specialized wrench to get to the gland nut? Plumber's wrench?

Thanks for sharing all your experience.

And, Yes, I know I should have done this while on the hard last winter!!! Sorry.

Jim

Sails and Canvas / asymetrical halyard
« on: March 05, 2019, 03:55:29 PM »
Hello folks,
I'd like to get an asym this spring.  I figure I hoist it (the "sock") with the jib halyard. But, what if I want to fly both the asym and a genoa at the same time?

Is there room up there for a second halyard?
BTW, I do not have roller furler.

Plus, your shopping recommendations? online.

Thank you,
Jim Selvy

Steering System, Hull Structure / bildge winter water?
« on: November 07, 2018, 01:33:19 PM »
Hi friends, We're on the hard now with a few inches of water in the bildge. Do you vac it out dry or add antifreeze. Both? I'm guessing some water will trickle it's way in anyway.

Engine and Drive Train / v-drive fluid? and water cooled?
« on: October 18, 2018, 01:42:48 PM »
Hey folks,
just sucked the fluid out of my Walter v-drive (connected to an Atomic 4).  Do I replace with Tranny fluid? or Oil? or?

also, I have a lake water thru-hull hose going directly in to the v-drive, then exiting and going directly into the engine. So, the v-drive is water cooled? Correct? Or what?

Thanks for your help!!
Jim

Engine and Drive Train / Raw water? Fresh water? Huh?
« on: October 08, 2018, 01:23:31 PM »
My Atomic 4 takes in "lake" water (my word).

Is this considered Raw? or Fresh?  Is there also antifreeze lurking somewhere in there? The manual makes it sound as if there are two kinds of fluid in there. truly a rookie here!

New Member Introductions / New owner,
« on: June 28, 2018, 05:54:09 PM »
Hello Pearson goup,
Just bought a 1977 in Lake City MN. Wonderful condition, beautiful marina. Never done a forum before so I might need coaching. I've already read some helpful posts. Installing a bimini and stove top this weekend. Does anyone have the Nautilus Automatic Battery Charger? Leave it on during the week? Yes?
Thanks,
Jim
