Hi friends, We're on the hard now with a few inches of water in the bildge. Do you vac it out dry or add antifreeze. Both? I'm guessing some water will trickle it's way in anyway.

you vacuum or soak it out. If you leave it, it will produce more condensation in the cabin and possible produce more mold and such for the spring. My previous owner left the bilge water there, and covered by the sole pieces with a sail sitting there on top all winter, and by spring the sole pieces under the sail went all black right from the bottom through to the top, so they had to be replaced as there was no repairing them.

Yup, I'm with Last Resort. I'm in Ct., pull the mast, shrinkwrap, vacuum the bilge, dump in antifreeze, run it through both bilge pumps, then vacuum again. Home Depot sells a cheap wet vac for $25 they call "Bucket head". You have to buy a 5 gal. bucket too. It's perfect for the job, and is great for pumping out the dinghy. It's also good for pumping up the dinghy.

Don't vac the water out if you have a gas engine.
Diesel is OK, gas not ok

Please don't tell my Wet-Dry this.
I've been vacuuming nuisance water from my bilge and stuffing box sump for 20 years.
The key is not to have gasoline in the bilge.

That's a risk I would never take.
