New Owner

Hi all!  Just bought hull 193 in Miami this weekend after lusting after her for 2 months. Had a great time bringing the boat back to its new home port in Key Largo, FL!  My wife and I are in our early 30s and VERY excited to have our first "real" cruising boat. We've owned a series of smaller O'days for the past 7 years or so. Have taken ASA courses, and done several offshore deliveries, but have yet to cruise on our own boat.

Fortunately for us, hull 193 shows lots of love from her previous owners. There is a brand new main with stack pack, 2 yr old jib, a ton of spare parts, and a newer dodger as well.

We plan to spend a few months adding some features like a davit system, solar, refrigeration, and a propane stove. Hopefully we will be spending part of next year in the Bahamas!

This site has been very informative and I look forward to being part of the community.

Congratulations!  Wish I had taken the plunge in my 30s, you lucky dog.

Lots of good articles on this site for what ails you - some good stuff on solar panels, very recent.  Look around and ask questions; you have a fine, seaworthy boat!

Congrats on a great choice!  And welcome to the forum!

And I agree, you're doing it right! We waited 'till we were in our 50's before stepping up from a small 21' daysailer to a real cruising boat, and we keep saying "Why didn't we do this sooner!!

Last year, we put over 800 NM on her for the season. Next year or two, we're getting the itch to taker her down the ditch and spend the winter in the Bahamas and the keys.

But I've got to retire first!

Ed, me and my wife are with ya on that.  We need to get my last kid through college.
Bought my boat in 1982 at 25.  My three kids all raced 402's and are still avid sailors today.

I wish I had enough brain at 30 something to do it.  At least we are all in the same boat now...  I am right behind Dolce Vita with 630 NM since April.  Keep us all informed on your progress and trips. Good things happen to good people.
